The Client

Our client is a global leading investment and consulting firm, specializing in real estate, that caters to organizations of all sizes, across industries, all over the world. Our client wanted a more cost-effective hosting solution and a new application framework for one of their large government agency clients.  Their client needed a solution for managing extensive documentation as well as financial and operational data for hundreds of facilities.

The Problem

The client’s application environment was becoming difficult and cumbersome to manage and service.  The documents were stored in a set of highly customized SharePoint sites.  The infrastructure of the financial data application was approaching 14 years and the ability to deliver new capabilities was very limited. Our client was looking for improved operational efficiency, faster application and service deployments, easier access for the users to manage and store their documents as well as reduced IT infrastructure complexity.

There was also a backlog of new functionality desired in the financial data application which did not make fiscal sense to develop on an aging, proprietary infrastructure.  Additionally, the system needed to support the cyclical nature of the data management function – there were peak levels of activity at certain times of the quarter and at year end followed by periods of relatively lowered utilization.

What We Did

The solution involved a set of phased releases, each delivering a key element of the total solution.  Work included a new architecture and cloud migration of the SharePoint portals and Financial application to an Azure configuration. We also delivered an enhanced user experience for document management and implemented a new financial database framework with functionally to simplify data entry and which set the stage for additional enhancements for reporting and analysis.

The Results

The cloud migration enabled the client to have improved scalability, availability and an environment which is managed and maintained centrally by Geneca and the cloud service provider. Their support budget has now shifted from maintaining an aging infra-structure to delivery of new enhancements every quarter.
